Computer Orange

When a new year comes around, it's as if the entire world gets energized about achieving its personal best.  Diet books fly off the shelves and gyms memberships soar. Overcrowded closets and unfinished to do lists finally get tackled.  Computer Orange believes that your computer should also benefit from this period of productivity.  We have compiled a short, quick lists of things you can do to maintain the health of your PC.

  1. Save up to $75.00 on your power bill by activating power management.  Basically, you can set your computer to power down after a set period of inactivity.  Click here for more detailed instructions or to download our free EZ power management tool.
  2. Make sure you have antivirus and spyware installed and updated.  While there are some free antivirus available (such as AVG's version available here) which provide adequate coverage, it is always preferable to buy more comprehensive antivirus protection such as ESet's Nod32 Antivirus,, which provide excellent defense from malware and viruses.
  3. Avoid visiting "recreational" websites without aforementioned resilient antivirus protection. (Your PC will thank you for this)
  4. Spring clean your desktop and start up list.  Decluttering an overcrowded desktop and eliminating unnecessary programs from your start up list can speed up your computer's sluggish start up time.
  5. Please, please back up your data.  Extracting data from a failing or damaged hard drive is long and expensive work.  Save yourself the headache and opt to either backup vital info on an external drive or online.  Click here for up to 4GB of free space courtesy of Mozy.

May you and your PC have a happy and healthy new year.
